{"id":5215,"date":"2016-06-08T22:06:04","date_gmt":"2016-06-09T02:06:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/assuredautomation.com\/news-and-training\/?p=5215"},"modified":"2023-02-14T10:57:31","modified_gmt":"2023-02-14T15:57:31","slug":"nv-actuator-best-practices-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/assuredautomation.com\/news-and-training\/nv-actuator-best-practices-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Assured Automation NV Series Actuator Recognized in Best of the Best 2016 Best Practices Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>NV Series Replaces obsolete belt-driven valve actuators with gear-style design actuator at less than 10% of the cost of OEM\u2019s replacement option<\/h2>\n<p>Much of our electricity is generated by gas turbines, internal combustion (IC) engines that produce power by burning air-fuel mixtures that throw off hot gases which in turn spin the turbines.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/articles\/AssuredAutomationCCJ.pdf\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-5222\" src=\"\/news-and-training\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/best-2016-best-practices-award.png\" alt=\"Best of the Best 2016 Best Practices Award\" width=\"182\" height=\"242\" \/><\/a>The <em>Combined Cycle Journal<\/em> covers trends and best practices for the gas-turbine-based generation sector of America\u2019s electricity industry and is referenced by electric-generation professionals who design, construct, manage, operate, and maintain these types of power plants worldwide. Each year, the publication recognizes <a href=\"\/articles\/AssuredAutomationCCJ.pdf\">Best of the Best 2016 <\/a>Best Practices Award. This year\u2019s award includes a solution recommended by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ptlfprocess.com\/\">PTLF Process LLC<\/a>\u00a0for a much less expensive and simpler installation of Assured Automation\u2019s NV Series direct-drive gear-style design actuator. The NV Series replaced an obsolete belt-driven fuel-gas and fuel-oil ball-valve actuators at a whopping 10% of the cost of the OEM for the Siemens V84.2 generator.<\/p>\n<p>The 933-MW Doswell Energy Center in Ashland VA was constructed in 1992 using Siemens V84.2 generators.\u00a0The original estimate to replace one obsolete belt-driven actuator with the OEM solution was $18,000 each. PTLF Processes recommended using <a href=\"\/literature\/NV_datasheet.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Assured Automation\u2019s NV Series<\/a> simple direct-drive gear-style design actuator instead. The NV Series provides better control, higher reliability, and instant fit-up to the existing valves. At 10% of the OEM estimate, the Assured Automation NV Series gear-driven actuator and installation drastically reduced the maintenance cost for the facility, which required\u00a024 replacements.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/articles\/AssuredAutomationCCJ.pdf\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5219 size-full\" src=\"\/news-and-training\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/AA-Doswell-2016-BoB.png\" alt=\"Combined Cycle Journal Best of the Best 2016 Best Practices Award for Assured Automation NV Series gear-driven actuator\" width=\"679\" height=\"299\" srcset=\"https:\/\/assuredautomation.com\/news-and-training\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/AA-Doswell-2016-BoB.png 679w, https:\/\/assuredautomation.com\/news-and-training\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/AA-Doswell-2016-BoB-300x132.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 679px) 100vw, 679px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Many power generation plants face\u00a0similar issues with aging\u00a0Siemens V84.2 generators throughout their facilities. The Doswell Energy Center was able to vastly reduce the cost of the repair and maintenance on these turbine engines by special ordering the <a href=\"\/literature\/NV_datasheet.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NV Series gear driven electric actuators<\/a> with the assistance of Assured Automation&#8217;s <a href=\"mailto:russg@aa-fs.com?subject=NV Series Actuator Inquiry\">Russ Gallo<\/a>.
